Day +8

Today was another difficult day. I had no appetite, a persistent headache, and weakness. I’ve also developed some difficulty in swallowing pills. The doctor says none of this is at all out of the ordinary. I may start to feel better when my counts start coming up, which may be tomorrow.

I got another platelet transfusion today.

WBC 0.2
Hgb 8.9
Plt 13 (42 after transfusion)
ANC 0.0

I think I can hear the train approaching …

Hey Justin,
We are pulling for you and are sorry you are feeling bad...even if all this is to be expected, it's still not any fun. We are hoping to see you tommorrow morning, but totally understand if you are not in the mood for company...be honest and take care of yourself first. Sending our love to you as always...Jenny & David

From Wayne:

You're not only past the half-way point for your hospital stay, you're also way more than half-way through fighting this thing. Hang in there for a few more days, and then you'll have a home-coming like you've never had before.

Hi Justin,
we saw Val who told us about you. We have been thinking about you every day since then and followed your blog. Really wish for you to begin to feel significantly better by tomorrow! We are also pulling for you! A big hug from us! Jim and Helena

Hey Buddy,
Looks like Lynne and I can finally exhail, at least for now. Ten years from now this will be less defining then it is now, but for now, you the man! Nice to see that you have this by the throat. OK, so you had some help (OK a lot of help), it's still, in the end, you, that space between your ears, and your immune system that are left alone in the wee hours of the day wondering. I'm so very proud of you and your family, Justin.
I'm off on the next great adventure, Darfur this time, so I won't be near a computer, let alone the net for the month of September. I have every confidence this will be an episode in your life that makes you stronger and one in which you will prevail. My, our, best to the Hyatts and their extended family. Sounds like a great homecoming, hugs all around.

By the way...what train?

Mike Pendleton
